Ok...Non si può fare in modo che si comporti come vorrei io a patto che l'outro sia settato e prendere il valore standard solo se non è settato?

se ho capito bene pero' c'è meno di 1 secondo da ascoltare ... secondo me non dovresti settare punti outro inferiori a 1 secondo. almeno 1 secondo deve durare oppure metti il default a 0 cosi' i brani senza outro saranno tutti trattati come desideri tu

No è l'opposto, bisogna far ascoltare tutto il brano, fino alla fine! Invece con il controllo automatico come era impostato, in caso di interventi parlati di 1 minuto o più, i voice track entravano nel bel mezzo del brano, specie se il brano aveva una durata relativamente breve!
In ogni caso penso di adottare la seconda soluzione da te proposta. Molto spesso i brani terminano di netto sia con parti cantate che con stacchi musicali.
